MAJ, US Army Special Forces Operations Officer 4/1SWTG(A)

MAJ Jeffrey T. Moracco was most recently the Commander of the 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne)'s Technical Information Support Company (TISC) before transitioning over to be the Operations Officer at 4th BN, 1st Special Warfare Training Group (Airborne).

JT Moracco of Irvington, New York, volunteered for military service and entered the Army in 2004 as part of Marion Military Institute's early commissioning program before transferring to the United States Military Academy in 2005 and commissioning as a Combat Engineer Officer in May 2009. He then went on to deploy in 2011 to Iraq in support of OIF and then in 2012 to Kuwait as part of Operation Spartan Shield with the 1st Cavalry Division. He attended the Special Forces Qualification Course in 2012. After graduation in 2014, he was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne). He deployed to Jordan in 2015 to help stand up the counter-ISIL operation with CSOTF-Syria. He was then assigned as the Detachment Commander of ODA 5316, where he deployed to Syria in 2016 to lead one of the first SF ODAs into Northern Syria as part of the Ma'ra offensive in support of OIR. He then deployed again with ODA 5316 to Syria to the Hamad desert in Southern Syria, where he conducted combat operations against ISIL fighters and oversaw the training and deployment of another government program focused on counter-ISIL missions operating throughout the CENTCOM AOR. He was later diagnosed with PTSI relating to his combat deployments. Post Detachment Command, JT served as the Executive Officer for A Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group, where he deployed a 6th time, overseeing offensive operations against ISIL insurgents remaining in the Middle Euphrates River Valley. Following his return from Syria in March of 2019, JT attended ILE and went to the National Defense University before being assigned to 1stBN, 3rd SFG (A) as the Charlie Company Commander. JT then served as the Rear-Detachment Battalion Commander and Battalion Executive Officer of 1st BN, 3rd SFG (A) and the TISC Company Commander in 4thBattalion, 3rd SFG (A).

Since leaving 3rd SFG (A), JT’s commitment to service evolved into a mission to aid others facing similar challenges. Through his path to recovery, marked by education, attending Warriors Heart, and varied treatment approaches, he continues to serve his fellow service members also battling similar PTSI-related symptoms. Driven by a profound sense of duty to support his comrades, he diligently volunteers his time to assist others on their journey to healing. JT works on various initiatives to bring awareness to leaders within the Special Operations Community and works with organizations, providers, and clinicians to help get resources to those in need.

Beyond his military endeavors, JT finds strength and purpose in his family – his wife Kristen and their three children. Together, they form a pillar of support within the Special Forces community, offering solace to soldiers and families grappling with loss or injury. Their shared commitment to serving others reflects a deep-rooted dedication to the Special Forces Regiment.
